Jessica Simpson and her football-playing fiancé welcomed a baby girl on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. The newborn, who they named Maxwell Drew Johnson, was as big as you might expect of a football player’s daughter — she tipped the scales at 9 pounds, 13 ounces, and was just shy of 22 inches long. Shortly after the baby arrived, Jessica posted the following announcement on her website: Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby girl Maxwell Drew Johnson 9 pounds, 13 ounces; 21-3/4 inches We are so grateful for all of the love, support and prayers we have received. This has been the greatest experience of our lives!! Maxwell:: The name Maxwell is most commonly known as a boy’s name, or as a surname. It’s an unusual choice for a daughter, but especially given rumors that the baby will be called by the nickname Maxi, isn’t too offbeat. (And certainly not as creative as the baby name her sister chose for her son — Bronx Mowgli.) Drew: Jessica’s mom was born Tina Ann Drew in Texas in 1960, so the baby has her grandmother’s maiden name for a middle name. While Drew is also commonly used as a boy’s name (may be short for Andrew), as evidenced by actress Drew Barrymore, it’s also used for girls. Not only did Jessica Simpson post her birth announcement on her website immediately after Maxi’s birth, she also confirmed the pregnancy via the web last October, in time for Halloween. She shared a photo of herself dressed as a mummy, and wrote, “It’s true — I’m going to be a mummy!”
